- Agree on the method before the bill arrives. Deciding on equal or percentage-based splitting ahead of time avoids an awkward conversation at the table.
- Account for tax and tip up front. Adding them to the total before dividing keeps every person’s share accurate.
- Round in the group’s favor. When a split doesn’t divide evenly, letting the difference land on whoever is paying the bill directly is usually the smoothest option.

Does this account for tax and tip?
The Split Equally tab lets you add a tax percentage and a tip percentage on top of the bill, then divides the full amount evenly. The Split by Percentage tab works from one total figure, so add tax and tip to that total before you enter it there.
What happens if the percentages don’t add up to 100?
This tool scales each entry proportionally so the amounts still add up to your total bill. If your percentages come to 90% combined instead of 100%, each share grows a small amount to close that gap, and the split stays fair relative to what you entered.
Can this handle a group that ordered very different amounts?
Yes. Give each person a percentage that reflects what they ordered instead of an equal share, and the Split by Percentage tab divides the bill to match.
Why do the per-person amounts sometimes look off by a cent?
Money divides into cents, and a bill split among an odd number of people rarely divides evenly. This tool rounds each share to the nearest cent, so the total can land a cent or two away from the exact bill amount.
